Use cases

Six scenarios where a clear picture of activity and devices brings order to the organization.

ActiSignal supports IT, operations and management in the day-to-day management of team work and company Windows devices. The scenarios below show how activity signals — status, sessions, application usage and Agent health — help solve concrete organizational problems.

ActiSignal is not a surveillance tool. The data shown relates to the use of company devices and to operational processes; the organization defines the scope and how it is used, within communicated rules.

  1. Scenario 01: Remote and hybrid work monitoring

Organization context: An organization with around 120 devices, half of which are used outside the office on a daily basis.

    Challenge

Laptops used at home and on the road are hard to cover with a consistent operational picture. IT does not know which devices have not sent a signal for a long time or whether the Agent on them is running, and team leads have no reliable information about when the hardware is actually in use.

    How ActiSignal helps

The ActiSignal Agent reports status, sessions and its own health regardless of where the device is. The dashboard shows the time of the last signal, the split between active and idle time and the applied policies — within clearly communicated organizational rules and without recording the content of anyone's work.

  2. Scenario 02: Company device monitoring

Organization context: An administrator responsible for hardware at a company with several locations and around 300 workstations.

    Challenge

Information about computers is scattered across spreadsheets, an inventory system and the memory of team members. A simple question is hard to answer: how many devices are available today, and which ones need attention?

    How ActiSignal helps

A central register of devices assigned to the organization, teams and locations. Each device shows its online/offline status, operating system version, Agent health and the time of the last signal, and periodic reports summarize the state of the whole fleet.

  3. Scenario 03: Time at the computer

Organization context: Team leads and an operations team at an organization that plans workstation load between departments.

    Challenge

It is unclear when workstations are actually in use and when they stay switched on but idle. Shift planning, desk reservations and team load are planned on the basis of estimates.

    How ActiSignal helps

A structured record of sessions on each device: start, end, and a split into active and idle time derived from system signals. Data is aggregated at device and team level; it provides context for operational decisions and does not replace a conversation with the team.

  4. Scenario 04: Application usage monitoring

Organization context: An IT team preparing a software license renewal for around 200 workstations.

    Challenge

Licensing decisions are made without data on actual use. Some packages are paid for on workstations where they have not been launched for months, while other teams rely on tools outside the adopted standard.

    How ActiSignal helps

Application usage trends by category, over time and by team. They help plan software standards and right-size license counts on the basis of operational data — without visibility into the content of work performed in those applications.

  5. Scenario 05: IT troubleshooting

Organization context: A technical support team handling tickets from several dozen workstations across different locations.

    Challenge

A ticket saying "the computer stopped working yesterday" means manually establishing which device, at what time and in what state it was at that moment. Diagnosis takes hours and keeps the reporting person involved.

    How ActiSignal helps

The history of device status, sessions and Agent events quickly narrows down the moment and scope of the problem: lost connectivity, unusually long idle periods or a missing synchronization. The technician has the context before contacting the person using the device.

  6. Scenario 06: Agent health and operational auditing

Organization context: A systems administrator responsible for keeping fleet configuration in line with the organization's internal standards.

    Challenge

It is unclear whether all installed Agents are running, up to date and reporting correctly. Reviewing configuration before an internal audit means checking every workstation by hand.

    How ActiSignal helps

An overview of heartbeat, versions and technical warnings for ActiSignal Agents, together with the history of applied policies. Reports document the state of the fleet over a chosen period and simplify preparation for an operational audit.
